The Australia Day Committee (Victoria) is searching for a fresh, young talent to be a part of our Australia Day 2010 celebrations in Melbourne.
Since 2002, a young Victorian has been selected to sing at the official Australia Day proceedings in front of the Governor of Victoria, the Premier, VIPs and a crowd of thousands. Past winners have gone on to further their singing careers and gain opportunities through their role as the Australia Day Anthem Singer.
Chair of the Australia Day Committee (Victoria), Mr Bruce Hartnett, said, “We want to encourage all budding young singers to send their recording of both verses of the National Anthem to see if they can become the next Australia Day Anthem Singer.
“Our previous singers have ranged in age from 11 to 21 and we’ve had a mix of both female and male winners. But all of them have told us how much they gained from the opportunity of being able to perform at such as wonderful event as the Australia Day official proceedings,” he said.
To be eligible you must be under 21 years at 26 January 2010.
Entrants need to send an audio recording of both verses of the National Anthem on CD/cassette by 5.00pm, Friday 4 December 2009 to:
National Anthem Singer Competition
Australia Day Committee (Victoria)
1 Treasury Place
Melbourne VIC 3002
The audio recording must be a simple, unaccompanied solo presentation of the Anthem. Recordings by up to 3 voices may be considered. Please do not label the CD/cassette recording or it will result in disqualification.
Remember to include the entrant’s name, age, address and telephone number separately inside the package. Entries will not be returned.
